China Voyager Review: Mapo Tofu Ramen Set

Heeeeeello! After a long hiatus, I think I’m back! If you follow me on Twitter you will know that I just declared that Tokyo Disney Food Run 2017 is a thing! This is something that I’ve been wanting to do for a few years, but never got around to actually making a list and keeping track. I also do realize that it’s already June and it seems like I’m getting a late start, but I’m going to “cheat” and document the past 6 months of my food journey at Tokyo Disney Resort!

Tokyo Disneyland was overrun by Snowgies in January! Frozen Fantasy!

So yes, this means we are going back to January and starting at China Voyager! Storytime, when I was little my parents used to take me to a ramen shop that served mapo tofu ramen and I loved it so much, but a few years later the restaurant closed and I had to mourn the loss of a very good food friend. Now, since then I have seen and eaten mapo tofu ramen a few times at different ramen shops, but it is never as tasty as I hope it will be. Then I found out that Tokyo Disneyland served mapo tofu ramen on their winter exclusive menu and I knew I had to check it out!

For some reason I don’t have a photo of the whole set or menu…I must have been hungry. A quick Google search tells me that this set was 1,580 yen and also came with a drink! I’m not going to lie and say that I remember every single detail about this bowl of ramen, but I will say that it was good! Sometimes mapo tofu ramen can have too much broth and that ruins the thick mapo sauce. I felt that this mapo tofu ramen had a really good balance of soup and sauce. Also the pork was heavenly! If you don’t like fatty meats though, you might not like it.

After taking a few bites of my ramen I decided to add the egg to it! This egg was perfection. I am a huge fan of soft boiled eggs and this coddled egg was no exception. I wish I had a photo or video of the yolk breaking. Yummm! It also really mellowed out the flavor of the mapo sauce.

The Voyager Set also came with a dessert. I love Chinese food, but almond jelly is definitely not my favorite. It’s funny because I like almonds, but not foods made with almond extract. As a jelly though this dessert was good. It was the perfect level of jiggly-ness and I also appreciate the fresh strawberry!

So, that was my first post from Tokyo Disney Food Run 2017! I am crossing China Voyager off of the list! I hope you enjoyed and will stick around to follow the rest of my year!
