TDL Food Reviews, Tokyo Disneyland

Halloween Food at Tokyo Disneyland 2017!

The theme of my blog seems to be me apologizing for falling behind. Well, I’m going to stop that and just pick up from the latest event at TDR. Yes, it is October 31st and yes, that means that Halloween ends today. I’m just gonna sneak in this post before all of the holiday festivities get started. If you’ve seen our TDR Life: Halloween Foods video these pictures may look familiar to you. I was hoping to get to DisneySea as well and have one nice big post, but the past two months didn’t go as planned at all. I feel it was rainy for the most part and that really lowered my motivation to go to the parks. #Life #Excuses :D

Anyway, let’s get into the main topic! One of the foods I was most interested in this season was definitely the special cone from The Gazebo. At first glance, you might think this is pumpkin ice cream, but nope, it is a scoop of mashed potatoes over Korean barbecue beef! It’s quite a surprise when you’re expecting a sweet treat and end up with a savory snack!

Supposedly the mashed potatoes had some pumpkin in them, but I couldn’t taste it at all. The beef had a sweet teriyaki-like flavor and I enjoyed it tremendously! It wasn’t the easiest thing to eat and I wouldn’t have minded a little bit more filling, but I feel like everything is about being Instaworthy anyway and this indeed fulfills that purpose.

The next snack on the list is from Sweetheart Cafe and definitely fits in with the Halloween theme. I’m not sure how they came up with the idea to pair a cinnamon roll and curry bread together, but I appreciate that it’s not all sweet as I usually prefer savory treats over sugary goodness.

I wish the box was made out of a sturdier cardboard because the design was super cute, but it was just a bit too flimsy for my liking. My friend likes to argue that The Nightmare Before Christmas is a Christmas movie and should not be used for Halloween. What do you think?

I’ll quickly mention the Jack Skellington curry bread because that’s probably the one you’re the most interested in. For me, flavor-wise it was very average tasting. I found it a bit weird that the eyes were chocolate flavored. I know that some people like to put chocolate into their curry to give it added flavor but as a topping on a savory bread, it didn’t seem to be a good fit. The curry inside was good, but there wasn’t much in the bread. That was not a big issue for me though because I tend not to expect too much portion-wise from amusement park food. The cinnamon roll was good! The pastry was soft, it had a good strong cinnamon flavor, and the icing was sweet! It would have been much tastier if it was warm, but again, we’re at a theme park, not a 5-star bakery.

Last, but definitely not the least, my favorite Halloween food from Tokyo Disneyland! The special set from Huey, Dewey & Louie’s Good Time Cafe! I was unsure about this at first because for the longest time I was not a fan of the steamed bun bread at the parks, but I think they changed the recipe quite a while back and I’m slowly getting over the traumatic memories of dry plastic-skinned bread.

I said this was my favorite and I know I didn’t get to try ALL of the Halloween foods from the parks, but I think even if I had this would still be at the top of my list. The scallop cream croquette was one of the best things I’ve had in a long time. The bun was super soft and it all went together perfectly. I really wanted to get back and have another one before Halloween ended, but I guess I’ll just have to cross my fingers that they will bring it back next year.

We also tried a few other Halloween themed foods from Tokyo Disneyland in our video!

  1. Thank you so much for the great info. We have canceled two trips to Disneyland over the last several months because of the rain. We are hoping for some dry weather in November so we can make one trip before it gets too cold!

    1. This rain has really been a pain in the butt! We were at the parks for a few days earlier this month but it rained the whole time!! Let’s hope for lots of sunshine during November! :D
