A Week of Food at TDR

During April I had the chance to spend a week at TDR and play tourist around Tokyo as well with some lovely friends. I really liked being able to pop into the parks on a daily basis because you start to notice little things that you don’t usually see. Unfortunately, the week we went it was rainy and pretty gloomy so I ended up leaving my heavy camera at home and just enjoyed the parks with my friends. I did though snap photos of most of my food and thought I would share with you what a week of eating at Disney looks like for me.

Waffles from the Great American Waffle Company! I’ve mentioned this before, but Japan is not huge on breakfast foods and especially not sweet breakfast foods. I think our grocery stores have 3 types of cereal at the most. Luckily though, the Waffle Company opens a bit after the park opens and we were able to indulge in the sweet and crispy goodness of the Mickey Mouse waffles! And yes, I had ice cream on mine even though it was like 9 in the morning. Don’t judge me!

These photos are out of order so don’t mind if you see me having lunch three times in a row. I tend to spend a lot of my time at DisneySea and along with the fact that I snack throughout the day it means that I don’t frequent the restaurants much at Disneyland. I was excited to try the omurice at the Center Street Coffee House and it was absolutely delicious! For those of you that are not familiar with omurice, it is a rice pilaf flavored with ketchup covered with a fluffy egg blanket. The one I had was served with beef stew.

Okay, so this isn’t from either of the parks, but Ikspiari counts as TDR, right? I apologize for the messy plate, but I have an explanation! It’s messy because it’s from a dessert buffet called Sweets Paradise. They have a very large selection of desserts and they even have pastas, curry, and a small salad bar. For just under 1,500 yen you can eat and drink as much as you’d like for 90 minutes. They have a large variety of hot teas too and if you add on a few hundred more yen you can eat Haagen-dazs  ice cream too! The desserts are good, but I actually go for the pasta. It’s so good!

One of my favorite snacks at Tokyo Disneyland! These are hidden deep within Toon Town and can be purchased from a small wagon in front of Gadget’s Go Coaster. The red ones are Pizza Spring Rolls and the yellow ones are Egg and Shrimp Egg Rolls. By far the pizza flavored ones are the best. The shrimp one is good too, but the eggs are a but runny and I’m not a seafood lover anyway.

I did a post on this since it’s Easter exclusive, but I thought I’d pop a photo in here as well. This is the Easter Macaron with chocolate ganache. It is perfection. The packaging, the flavor, the texture, and just everything about it. I love, love, love it. I wish it wasn’t seasonal and I wish it was a bit cheaper.

Hotel food counts too, right? This and the photo below are from the Tick Tock Diner in the Ambassador Hotel. They have really cute seasonal breads too! This is obviously Mickey Mouse’s pants and I believe it was called pizza something….ha. I actually didn’t eat this myself, but it was too cute to not take a picture of! If I remember correctly, my friend enjoyed it very much.

This was absolutely scrumptious! It’s a bacon cheese bread shaped like Mickey Mouse! The ears were filled with chunky cheese and the face loop was filled with a ham-like bacon. Sooo good. It needed a good dipping sauce to make it perfect. The bread was much like a baguette, but it wasn’t too harsh on the teeth at all.

Since we’re talking about hotels, I’ll go ahead and share this photo of the Dreamer’s Lounge at the Disneyland Hotel. The atmosphere of this lounge is probably my favorite, though the DisneySea lounge is wonderful as well. It was a cold and rainy day so the time spent at the Dreamer’s Lounge was luxurious.

The chocolate coffee tart with cherries. Oh my goodness. I don’t even have words to describe the deliciousness of this tart. Normally I stay away from cherries and berries. I’ll always pick chocolate over anything fruity, but this was an exception. The chocolate filling was denser than a mousse, but still very smooth. There was only a hint of coffee as far as I could tell, but that may be because I was drinking a cafe latte. There were whole cherries inside and that surprised me a little, but they went perfectly with the chocolate! I wish I could have eaten 10 more of these.

One last non-park photo. This is from Beck’s the little cafe-ish shop right outside of the Maihama Station exit. I like eating there because they serve a hot breakfast! I saw on Twitter though that they’re closing. I’m not 100% sure of this though, so don’t quote me on it. I’ll be sad to see it go if it does indeed close. The breakfast burger is always good, but the hidden treat at Beck’s are the tater tots. They are hot, crisp, and just plain heavenly!

Back to the parks! This delicious looking treat is from Nautilus Galley in DisneySea. I have a lot of favorites, but this is probably in my top 3. The Pork Gyoza is a snack that I could eat throughout the day on a daily basis and not get sick of. I have a secret for you all…I actually ate two plates of these in one sitting. Oops.

A very popular DisneySea treat is the Steamed Gyoza Bun. I will be honest with you and say that I do like it, yes, but it’s not in my top 10 at all. I feel like this is over-hyped and I would pick the Pork Gyoza over it any day. I find that the steamed foods at Disney tend to have a tough skin on the outside layer of the bun and I just don’t find it pleasant. Don’t let me discourage you from trying it though! It’s popular for a reason and I know that a lot of my friends like this treat a lot! (But make sure to try the Pork Gyoza too and tell me which you like better!)

This was a quick picture from when we popped into the Yucatan Base Camp Grill. My friends and I actually grabbed some Yucatan Sausage Dogs from the Expedition Eats wagon, (which I forgot to take a photo of) but my husband decided that he would rather opt for a full meal. I don’t remember the exact name, but it was a salmon dish with ketchup rice. I had a taste and it was okay. The salmon was a bit dry, but it wasn’t horrible at all.

Don’t even get me started on the amount of popcorn we ate. I did not take a picture of each flavor, but I must say that my current favorite is probably the cappuccino popcorn. I think it’s seasonal though so I’m going to eat my fill of it this spring! I want to try mixing it with the chocolate popcorn and make my own mocha mix!

I had the opportunity to eat dinner at the Polynesian Terrace and absolutely loved it. As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, I didn’t take my DSLR so I have no photos of the show, but here’s a peek at my food. The appetizer was a lot of seafood. The salmon and cucumber dish on the left was actually really good and refreshing. I carefully avoided the shrimp with eyes and enjoyed the rest. The rice salad was a bit bland, but I think that’s better than it tasting bad.

Here’s the main dish. It was a nicely cooked pork with avocado mashed potatoes. Totally bizarre, but totally delicious! The pineapple sauce went really well with it and I ate every last bite. I’m not a fan of avocados at all, but since they were hidden in the potatoes I was able to enjoy them. I’m a visual eater, if you didn’t notice. I forgot to take a photo, but dessert was a maple pudding with tropical fruits. Yum.

The final food I have for your viewing pleasure is the chocolate sundae from the Teddy Roosevelt Lounge! The flavor of the sundae changes seasonally and is usually a fruit flavor so I was very excited for the chocolatey goodness! It was so delicious! I don’t remember the details of what all was in it because I was so busy eating it, but I remember there being ice cream, brownie bits, whipped cream, and a cookie. The bottom was filled with coffee jelly and that is not my favorite filler. I would have preferred corn flakes over it, but the top half was heavenly!

So, what did you think of all the food I consumed over the week I was at TDR? I’m almost ashamed to say that there was even more, but I just forgot to photograph it. Let me know what food looked the most delicious to you or which foods you’ve tried and liked/disliked! Did I miss out on eating one of your favorites? Comment down below and I’ll be sure to try it next time I go ;D
